I found it refreshing to read generally charged topics like addiction or sacred sex removed of their shame

E bast candidly shares her experience of almost loosing her partner to a drug relapse after thirteen years of sobriety. She shares the details on how using the sacred plant medicine and African shrub, Iboga, helped save her partner's life and their romantic connection. Heart Medicine is obviously important in the field and research of addiction recovery and sacred plant medicine, which is stated as the book's main goal, however it is much more than that.
E. bast is the voice of a visionary, sensually empowered woman, thus her personal story is told on a backdrop of many views that would be considered taboo to mainstream culture, yet,are part of the everyday fabric of her life. I found it refreshing to read generally charged topics like addiction or sacred sex removed of their shame, reminding me of the sweet fragility and resiliency of human experience. In this way, her intimate story is like reading a modern Anais Nin diary. Heart Medicine is pure and raw, a page turner. It's what healing looks like when we allow ourselves to express the complexity of our lives without judgment or holding back. Heart Medicine is a book of a new era.

I admire the author's courage in revealing such an intimate journey. It is comforting to know that there are places on this planet that are keeping sacred shamanic traditions alive and available to seekers. Whether or not you are interested in having a personal experience with plant medicine, this book illuminates fundamental false premises of modern day culture that are so easily adopted and offers the wisdom of nature with a capital N. E. Bast's brilliance as a writer is evident as I could feel positive personal shifts in my own perception simply having read her lively material.

Pleasant and positive.

A surprisingly honest and open account of one couple's experience of healing and growth aided by the powerful African herbal medicine Iboga. Readers with personal experience of Iboga will recognise the dramatically positive effects this medicine can have in people's lives. Cynical readers without such experience may find the book to be too sentimental and overly keen to show this particular Iboga treatment facility in a good light. Overall it was well written and pleasant to read, and had very positive outcomes and messages throughout.
