and wonderfully practical guide to organizing your office

Yes, we all know we should be more organized. This book made me want to be more organized, and it made me want it enough to make immediate changes. "Get Organized. Get Focused. Get Moving: How to Avoid Productivity Potholes" is a succinct, engaging, and wonderfully practical guide to organizing your office, your work, your time, and yourself.
Kyriazis’ book is like having a likable but no-nonsense coach walk into your office on a bad day and say, “You don’t have to keep living like this” and then help you find the source problems and sort through what solutions fit you best. This coach has seen it all and understands the concept of baby steps. The best evidence of her years of experience working with clients lies in the practical and detailed examples, resources, and solution choices she offers. Guidance includes:
• Identifying your style of procrastination and effective strategies to overcome it.
• Simple and detailed suggestions on how to set up files, both paper and electronic.
• Identifying and honoring your priorities
• Dealing with distractions, interruptions, and setting boundaries.
The information is presented in a way that makes immediate implementation easy. For example: each chapter ends with The One Thing to Remember and a list of Three Things You Can Do to start implementing that priority principle. Also included are some great if scary quotes. My favorites: “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routines” and “Nobody procrastinates their way into getting organized.”
Kyriazis ends with an extensive and (not surprisingly) wonderfully organized list of resources including many helpful apps and software. That list alone is worth the price of the book.”

In 'Get Organized. Get Focused. Get Moving.', Cynthia Kyriazis goes over her best way to keep yourself on track for your organization's goals. With 25 years of experience as a productivity trainer, Kyriazis knows what she is talking about and this is quite clear with her direct methods on directing your time to actually be able to finish not only what you start but what you want to do.
Her focus is to have you identify what you want to do, place it in the order of priority, streamlining getting everything done and the planning process, identifying and avoiding distractions, and making sure you stay the course from start to finish.
If you have a lot on your plate, need help focussing on what is important, or need help avoiding distractions, Kyriazis has put together an amazing guide with you in mind!
Not only does she have a resource of invaluable help in itself but she also includes a link of similar resources with tools to help or expand on what she has covered or for similar areas. I highly suggest this one for anyone whose work can get a little too hectic at times or for those who feel that they might be juggling too many projects at once.

An easy to read and helpful guide to improving your organizational and time management skills.

This book offers advice on how to become better organized and more productive. The author uses lots of examples from her experience as a consultant. The writing style is very casual, and the author does a good job of keeping the reader's interest.
The first section of the book focuses on organization, including how to organize your office, your desk, and your computer. There was a lot of emphasis on organizing paper and files in this section, and not as much about organizing electronic files or email. Given the general trend in business away from paper, I was a little surprised at how much time the book spent on the subject. At times in this section I wished the author had gone a bit deeper into some of the principles she describes. More than once, when I expected her to expand or elaborate on a point, she instead moved on to another idea or ended the chapter.
The latter half of the book is focused on time management and productivity. I liked this section more than the section focused on organization, as I thought the guidelines and suggestions in this section were more generally applicable and useful (at least to me).
Some of the ideas around time management that I especially liked include the author's "Time Management GPS" (Goals, Priorities, and Scheduling) and the author's "Productivity Potholes" including:
* Focusing too much on responding to emails and text messages
* Interruptions, distractions, and over commitments,
* Procrastination and putting off making decisions
* Delegating and micromanaging
The author devotes long chapters to each of these common sources of poor time management and offers great insight and advice around each.
One of the things I liked most about this book is the way in which the author summarizes each chapter. Each chapter ends with the following sections:
* The One Thing to Remember: A single sentence that summarizes the key message of the chapter
* Three Things You Can Do: Three simple steps you can do to help put the chapter's ideas into practice
* Write down one thing...: A call to action for the reader to write down *one* thing they plan to do differently or change
* The Last Word: A quote or proverb related to the chapter's message
I'm a big fan of reinforcing ideas through repetition and summarizing and this format is a great example of how to do this in an efficient and elegant way.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for tips and advice on how to get better organized and improve their time management skills.
