About the Author
Charles Francis Haanell (May 22, 1866 – November 27, 1949) was a noted American New Thought author, philosopher and a businessman. He is best known for his contributions to the New Thought Movement through his book The Master Key System.
The Haanel family was of Swedish extraction, but had lived in Silesia, Prussia, before emigrating to Canada and thence to the United States.
He was a member of the Republican Party, a Freemason and Shriner affiliated with St. Louis Keystone Lodge No.243, (A.F. & A.M.) and a supporter of the Missouri Athletic Club. He was a member of Pi Gamma Mu Fraternity, a Fellow of the London College of Psychotherapy, a member of the Authors League of America; a member of the American Society of Psychical Research; a member of the Society of Rosicrucians; a member of the American Suggestive Therapeutical Association; and a member of the Science League of America. During his life, Haanel earned and received several honorary academic degrees, including hon. Ph.D., College National Electronic Institute; Metaphysics, Psy. D., College of Divine Metaphysics; and M.D., Universal College of Dupleix, India.
Haanel's book The Master Key System, was published in 1912, when he was 46 years old. It is written in the form of a course in New Thought, mental development, financial success, and personal health. The book was heavily promoted in the pages of Elizabeth Towne's New Thought magazine The Nautilus. By 1933 it had allegedly sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. Haanel practiced the financial principles he preached, and was a self made success who owned several major companies. According to Stevens, writing in 1909, "He was president of the Continental Commercial Company, president of the Sacramento Valley Improvement Company, and president of the Mexico Gold & Silver Mining Company."
The original Master Key System contained 24 parts or modules of study. The allegedly "lost" chapters of the Master Key System, chapters 25-28, which are found in some editions, are not original, but have been copied from the chapters 11-14 of A book about You.

Review of About You

This is an insightful look, and revelation, of Mr.Haanel. It discloses he is far more than a "New Thought" teacher. While he espouses, the importance of working in harmony with the Universal Subjective Mind(individualized within You as yours) he also depends on some rather esoteric teachings( for Mental thought manifestation purists). This shows itself with emphasis on the Solar Plexus implying chakras, and their stimulation are an important ingredient for successful manifestation.( the Master Key.)
This book is really a book or treatise on the effects of Planetary Rays(energies), and their influence over individual character and behavior. There is an old Astrological Maxim "Character is Destiny". He therefore in not a strict "Science of Mind practitioner". He is not,a pure Divine Mind devotee as were Mary Baker Eddy(Christian Science,Judge Troward, Ernest Holmes(Religious Science,the Philmores(Unity, Goddard, and so so on.These and others like Neville, are Pure in this philosophy. While I believethis fact is it is ultimately true, we mortals esp. in wealthy material societies, have numerous material claims upon us, and thus much attraction to the "denser" thought forms of matter. Using the higher, and highest material energy forms, such as Astrology, and the bodies own energy fields(chakras, etc), can and are very helpful aids to achieving manifestation of your positive thoughts and desires on this plane!!.
Astrology is the "bridge" between Pure thought, and the denser thought plane of our temporary existence as a so-called physical entity namely matter appearing to encase, a boundless Spiritual Energy, that is each of us.This is why we would do well to "harmonize with the natural rhythms of the Universe, which are materialized as Planetary energies and other infinite rhythms in descending order of influence till we evolve, and remember what we truly are, and once were.
So for those that are purists, in the concept you are what you think, reading too much of his material may confuse, and divert one from that pure ideology re: manifestation.In plain English, too many books like chefs can ruin the meal(your philosophy, higher power system etc. Only if you are not getting results with your present belief system should you go for a work like this.
Being one shall we say very familiar with Astrology, I agree completely with his co-mingling of metaphysical sciences, and their different schools. For the Purist of Mental Science in manifestation, stay away from this book, unless you already, have a basic understanding of Astrology, or wish to. He even gets into the Zodiac Houses(which he calls zones) So this is really a book on Astrology, and Character,and it's integration as a tool in Positive Cause, and Effect, in ones life.

This book is a great daily reader. The author is the Father of Self Improvement. This book is great but inspires the reader to be objective in a subjective world. Times have changed since the author published the original but the message can still be applied today. Great work I recommend to any one looking to be inspired.
