About the Author
Sarah Silverton is a meditation teacher working with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University in Wales. She was trained by Professor Mark Williams of Oxford University, and by the Center for Mindfulness in Massachusetts, established by Jon Kabat-Zinn. A trained occupational therapist and counsellor, she has 25 years’ experience of working with people with mental health issues and physical disabilities, including chronic fatigue.

Overwhelmed or just looking for a way to manage your normal anxieties? The Mindfulness Key is a great place to start.

We’ve all done it: you get in the car to drive somewhere and all of a sudden you're at the destination with no memory of the trip. Or you’re reading a book and find you have to turn back a few pages to go over the text again because you can’t remember what you read.

In both of these situations, your thoughts are probably so tangled up in other things in your life that you’ve gone on auto-pilot. With our modern, super-busy lives, many of us constantly agonize about the past and what will happen in the future. This creates a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety.

One reason adult coloring books have become so popular is that they supposedly help us manage our stress and anxiety through mindfulness.
But what is “mindfulness?” And is coloring really mindful?

The Mindfulness Key: The Breakthrough Approach to Dealing with Stress, Anxiety and Depression by Sarah Silverton does an excellent job answering the first question. This compact and concise (176 pages) book will introduce you to mindfulness, both in theory and practice, to give you a start in understanding yourself better and improving the way you live.

Author Sarah Silverton is an occupational therapist and counselor with 25 years’ experience working with people with mental health issues and physical disabilities, including chronic fatigue. She was trained by Professor Mark Williams of Oxford University, and by the Center for Mindfulness in Massachusetts, which was established by mindfulness expert Jon Kabat-Zinn. Silverton currently works at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice in Wales.

The Mindfulness Key is divided into two sections. The first defines mindfulness in easy-to-understand language and provides quite a few practical exercises; it also provides examples to help you learn fundamental techniques such as breathing, relaxation, body scanning and concentration building. In fact, just ten minutes into the book you will be trying a mindful exercise. The second part of the book guides you in using mindfulness for particular life challenges, such as depression, stress, anxiety, chronic illness, and childcare and relationship issues.

As the book progresses, you will learn to become aware of harmful automatic reactions to your emotions, feelings and experiences. Rather than “reacting” to life and uselessly pondering the causes and many potential outcomes, you will learn that mindfulness is a way to look at your experiences and then act more positively and constructively. I love this book’s practical exercises and examples – they are very helpful in helping you understand and practice mindfulness. And the diagrams and illustrations are great for people like me who appreciate visual learning.
So, is coloring mindful?

After reading The Mindfulness Key, my answer is that coloring certainly can be a way to practice mindfulness. I now see that coloring helps me break constant streams of anxiety and stress because, while coloring, I concentrate on what’s happening in the “right now,” not on unproductive downward spiraling “what ifs.”

The only criticism I have of this book is that it introduces the concept of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (“CBT”). In my experience, CBT is a natural progression from mindfulness, but it is such an expansive subject it is better to learn about it in classics like Mind Over Mood Mind Over Mood, Second Edition: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think, with the guidance of a qualified therapist. To her credit, however, the author does recognize that the support found in a class and/or with a professional is the best way to benefit from mindfulness. To that end, she has helpfully included a list of online references for finding classes and support.

If you are stressed, overwhelmed or just looking for a way to manage your normal anxieties, The Mindfulness Key is a great place to start.

Staying in the Present Moment

This book is so timely for our western culture. In a world that values constant busyness, and incessant “connection” through social media channels, The Mindfulness Key: The Breakthrough Approach to Dealing with Stress, Anxiety and Depression is a breath of fresh air and a beginner level introduction to the art of staying in the present moment.

Within five minutes of reading, we’re already practicing an easy 5 minute mindfulness session. Relaxing. Soothing even. Silverton gives clear directions on how to meditate and why: there’s plenty of research showing that what we think about changes the structure and activity of our brains, effectively improving our physical, mental, and emotional health, and developing our ability to respond to stressful situations in an emotionally healthy way.

The data is impressive. Truly. But as a mother of four, who used to spend hours admiring the splendor of nature, but now finds herself stressing over schedules, school papers, basketball practice, and drama club, I know firsthand how dramatically the concepts in The Mindfulness Key can improve your life. It’s really just doing a 180, coming back to the simple time in life when we were little kids, curious about life, and actively engaged in our experiences.

Anyone who finds themselves addicted to their phone, depressed about life, chronically sick, or simply dealing with anxiety should give this a look. Also, people who enjoy yoga, meditation, and a slower pace of life.

Should have known better

Misleading Title. Book contains no exercises to develop self discipline other than the obvious advice to eat healthy, get enough sleep, stick to a routine, and exercise and meditate regularly. Over half of the book seemed like worthless coddling, "I know this seems like it will be hard, but stick with it and it will get easier." and similar drivel. Start exercising your self-discipline right now and DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Nothing Special, save your money

I read some of these reviews and drank the cool-aid, shame on me. This book offers next to nothing on how to put in place a plan on bettering your self-discipline. I got to the last 20 pages before being told anything of importance and even that was nothing special, but to Meditate, sleep and exercise. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, especially at 9$

Beautiful Floral Coloring Art for Teens and Adults! Emma does it again! AAA+++

My daughter has been hooked on coloring and one of her favorites is Emma Andrews. We purchased Emma's Christmas book Adult Coloring Books: Christmas Delight and it is spectacular! We also have the Valentine's Heart design book Adult Coloring Books: Valentine Hearts, since she loves hearts!!!!!

This new book by Emma, is filled to the brim with a variety of Floral Designs. Some fill the entire page and it is really nice, especially for Flower lovers.

If you get the printed version, I would recommend using a safety sheet underneath, if you're going to be using markers. My daughter uses mostly pencils and the sheets are excellent for that. This one we got in the Kindle format and it includes (As all of Emma's books do) a printable Adobe PDF file.

This book is page after page of beautiful flowers!!! I have included some pics for you to see some of the designs, Hope it Helps:)

Flowers, Nature and coloring = a great find. This is a lovely coloring book. There is a working pdf link in the back of the kindle cloud reader. You will be able to download directly onto your computer or device. You can then print out full size individual pages or the whole book if you want.

I have always loved to color

I have always loved to color, from the time I was able to pick up a crayon until now. Long before if became a trend, I have been coloring as a way to reduce stress. I would doodle with a black pen while I was on the phone (which is what I do for work at a call center) and then after I had a page full I would fill in with colored pencils. Now that “Adult Coloring Books” have become a trend, I have started finding more and more books available.

I was a bit skeptical about being able to print from a kindle book, but there was a PDF file included that you can print from. You can choose to print one or two or the whole book multiple times. It is a book with low resolution images of coloring pages. Once you have the PDF, you can print the images and color away! I chose to print at home on regular copier paper and color one image at a time. It's great that you can use the same design and color many different ways if you wish. I have made my daughter (she's 13) a binder with a bunch of printouts from this and several other books and a pencil pouch with coloring pencils so she can take it wherever she wants.

In regards to the designs, there are many designs that vary significantly in detail and complexity. Again, I see this as a positive since if I have less time on my hands, I can do a simpler design or I can share it with nephew to color. But, if I have more time on my hands or I really want to escape and relax into some coloring meditation for a while, I can choose a more complex design.

I REALLY like the idea of a PDF that can be downloaded and the flexibility it provides for lots of fun family coloring. I'll definitely be checking to see if there are any other books available by this artist in the future.

“The Evidence Based Approach to Wealth (Life - Your Missing Guide Book)” is definitely worth a read. I consider myself fairly well rounded in my assets and occupation and business sense (I am Chinese after all), but this book did unveil interesting information, especially in the budgeting, savings and investment section. I appreciate its focus on long term strategy as opposed to the “buy high sell low” cursory tactics and emphasis on blockbuster companies like I see on so many investment sites and forums. The cost-cutting section was also useful, especially its emphasis on mental adjustments. I also liked its extensive background on the increasing chaos and troubles facing the millennial generation, though I am uncertain whether that section is too dry for or familiar to most people. However as a bit of a cynic myself, I do take issue with some sections that seemed a little too idealistic and/or naïve, such as how successful the idea of self-incorporation can be. Still, I enjoyed its can-do-attitude, which at least gives me a different point of view. Finally the book is a little dry. Though I appreciate an evidence-based approach, I am a scientist and this somewhat reminded me of the research papers I have come across, and I am not sure how others would take it. All in all, the book is fairly balanced, a good source of ideas and information, and an interesting way of looking at things, so it was worth $10. 4.5 stars.

There are many books out there about the best way to accrue wealth but most of them are glorified get quick rich schemes and one gets the feeling that peddling these books only accrue wealth for the authors and not the intended readers. This book is different in the sense that it is a serious and in-depth look at the issues confronting young people today in an uncertain world. The book gives excellent perspectives on a variety of issues relating to financial management and backs it up with solid data. It is dense and requires some commitment from the reader but if that commitment is made, you'll get a lot out of it. Would rate it 5 stars and excellent value for 10 dollars.

Great book to read!

Unlike other books about the law of attraction, this book of Vardan Dash started with a simple explanation of quantum physics. That we are all “Energy” and everything in this world is “energy” as well. With this, he then provided simple explanations on how these energies work on each other, and how the frequency of vibration of each person’s energy affect how we get the things that we want in life. Furthermore, this book broke down Law of attraction into three: energy, thoughts, and vibration, which I think help me better absorb the additional steps and concepts discussed in this book.

About the Author
Josh Rivedal is an author, actor, playwright, and international public speaker. He has spoken about suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and diversity in more than ninety locations across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. He has served on the board of directors for the New York City chapter of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He wrote and developed the one-man play, Kicking My Blue Genes in The Butt (KMBB), which has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. His memoir The Gospel According to Josh: A 28-Year Gentile Bar Mitzvah, based on KMBB and published by Skookum Hill in 2013, is on The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's recommended reading list. He writes for the Huffington Post. He is the founder and executive director of The i'Mpossible Project--a non-profit media company designed to entertain, educate, and engage on suicide prevention, mental health, diversity and social change. Not quite a review, but the authors in this book are some of the strongest, most resilient people I have ever met. This book is fantastic. Everyone has been through a tragedy and it is key being able to pick yourself back up. It helps knowing that you aren't alone in your rough times and most importantly restores hope. I will recommend this book to everyone I know!

We're All Possible

review What is life about other than a journey? This book which is written by 50 authors takes you on a journey of discovery. Not only about the stories in which you will read but about who you are within them.

I enjoyed each and every one of these stories. Some of them moved me to tears while others moved me to be in deep thought and in awe of the strength of others. The book is humbling in its words and it captures the essence of life in its truth. Each of our journey's are different and I do believe we will arrive at a place in our lives, where we find meaning in all of it at some point in time.

The I'm Possible Project reflects life at its most intimate and engages us to think, feel and have compassion for another's journey. Josh Rivedal captures life beautifully and it's worth the read. You will not be the same person once you have read this book.
