[[VIDEOID:d1846324e1f7137c530abc78b100dbb9]]“Cups of Joy” is a Christian-based coloring book with illustrations by artist, Annabelle Grobler. The design style has the feel of “doodle” with lots of extra elements added to give the colorist the ability to make a very colorful project. The book is made up of 4 board pages which include various punch-out designs that you can color. Each of these have a hole at the top which will allow you to hang your finished work. These include crosses, birds, words, and hearts. The rest of the book is many pages of designs, including 18 pages which are biblical based in nature. The remaining pages are fun to color and general in subject (examples – butterflies, flowers, rooster and chicken, birds and more.) Some of the pictures have intricate and detailed parts but for the most part should not require special nibbed pens and extra sharp pencils. The book is a great general all-around coloring book for someone wanting some Christian designs as well as others in a single offering.
The scriptures used in this book are primarily from two sources, “The Holy Bible” New Living Translation and “The Holy Bible” New International version. While the book is not devoted to Bible-based designs, the ones that are included are beautiful and a good source of good thoughts and meditation as I color those pages.
The book is very well put together. While the pages are not perforated, that are the type of glue bound that makes it a simple task to merely pull out pages if you wish. The activity pages are printed on one side on a very heavyweight cardstock with a glossy finish. The rest of the pages are printed on one side of a regular finish cardstock (slightly thinner than the activity pages.) The back of the book has a heavy cardboard page that gives you a flat surface to use no matter where you are coloring. The coloring book is slightly longer but narrower than a standard coloring book. It is quite thick and the coloring page can be flat very easily but simply opening the page. All of the design stop well before the binding.
My coloring mediums worked different on the activity pages from the regular coloring pages. Nothing leaked through or indented the back of the coloring pages but coloring pencils went on much lighter than usual (probably due to the glossy surface.) For the rest of the book, all of my alcohol-based markers bled through. My water-based markers either bled through or left a shadow of color on the back side of the page and my Tombows required a lot longer to dry enough not get on my hand and smear around the page (this is unusual as I have never had it happen before.) My gel pens and India ink pens did not bleed through but my gel pens required a lot of extra drying time. Coloring pencils worked well on this paper and behaved as expected for their type of lead.
